Freebie Angle Estimation Game

Hey, guys!

During the Valentine season, I found some of these adorable heart mold ice cube trays at my local Dollar General, so I bought some to use in a station game for my students to practice estimation the measure of angles.

How it Works:

Students choose their own color of centimeter cubes and take turns tossing them into the heart molds of the ice cube tray. Inside each mold is an angle. Students draw the angle on a dry-erase board without a protractor, and their partners look at an answer key to check their angle.

Game Preparation:

1) Using a Sharpie, draw different angles in the bottoms of the cube tray. (I placed Avery circle labels in the bottom first.)

 2) Here are the angles found on the answer key: (Depending on your cube tray, you may not have enough cube molds to write all of the angles.) 15, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 100, 120, 150, 180, 210, 240, 270, 300, 330, and 360.
3) Print out and laminate the answer key (download down below).

Rules of the Game:

Number of Players: 2-4
Materials: Angle Estimation ice cube tray, 40 centimeter cubes (each player should have 10 centimeter cubes of a unique color), Answer Key, dry-erase board, Expo markers (or pencil and paper)
How to Play:
1) Take turns tossing a centimeter cube into one of the molds in the ice cube tray.
2) When a player tosses a cube into the tray, they should draw the angle they land on, using the dry-erase board (Do NOT use a protractor – only estimation.).
3) The other players should check the drawing. It should be within 10 degrees of the actual angle (protractors may be used to check).
4) If the player is correct, they leave their cube in the mold. If they are incorrect, they must remove it.
5) Continue playing until all molds have a centimeter cube. The player with the most cubes in the tray wins.
